Lille and Strasbourg were to set up ZFEs with traffic restrictions on January 1, 2021. But it will finally be for 2022 in these cities.
In Lille and Strasbourg, the New Year was to bring its share of traffic restrictions. Not in connection with the health situation, but in connection with ZFEs (Low Emission Zones) and therefore permanent. The decisions had been voted on several months ago. However, these two cities have decided to postpone the introduction of the new measures.
On the Strasbourg side, we explain: “Due to the health crisis and the postponement of the municipal elections, the State has granted an additional period of application for this measure”. On January 1, 2021, vehicles not classified in the Crit'Air system were to be banned from Strasbourg and all the municipalities of the Eurometropolis. It will finally be on January 1, 2022. But the rest of the calendar that had been recorded does not change. So on January 1, 2022, Crit'Air 5 vehicles will also be banned.
In Lille, the establishment of a ZFE on January 1, 2021, with traffic bans, was voted in June 2019! The measure, however, was the subject of radio silence since, until these days. With the daily La Voix du Nord, Damien Castelain, president of the metropolis, announced a postponement of the ZFE for one year. For his part, Sébastien Leprêtre, vice-president in charge of the file, explained to the daily: "the calendar has been impacted by the confinements. We have not made enough progress on the file. It is a heavy subject, which requires a lot of work". He added: "it would have been totally unthinkable to set it up in this economic context anyway". It should therefore be for 2022 in Lille too.
