The manufacturer of sports car Aston Martin revealed a loss of almost 540 million euros a few days ago last year, partly due to the Pandemia. But there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Sans l'arrivée du DBX, pas sûr qu'Aston Martin aurait survécu.466 million pounds, that is precisely 539 million euros lost in 2020, it is the unaware of Aston Martin, after having already lost 120 million pounds (139 million euros) in 2019.The pandemic obviously had a significant impact, causing the closure of both concessions but also factories several times last year, and resulting in the drop in sales income by 38 %, to 611 million pounds (707 millioneuros), with only 3,394 models elapsed, a decline of 42 %.But there are also other reasons.
The Gaydon brand has also dilapidated nearly 100 million pounds (116 million euros) in investment in the development of projects that have never seen the light of day, like that of an electric car.And there is also the constantly pushed release of "No Time to Die", the last film in the James Bond franchise, a real advertisement for the manufacturer whose fruit he cannot pick up despite his important financial participation.
It led to a game of musical chairs at its head in January 2020.The Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll then entered 16.7 % of the manufacturer's shares against 182 million pounds (210 million euros) and took advantage of it last August to replace Andy Palmer, the Managing Director, byTobias Moers, former boss of Mercedes-AMG.He has not arrived empty -handed, injecting 500 million pounds (578 million euros) in the company.
But Aston Martin keeps hope for 2021.The DBX, its first SUV, sells well, and even extremely well since it represents not far from half of the models sold by the brand last year, with 1,516 units sold over only six months, resulting in oneIncome increase of 3 % in the last quarter.A real locomotive which is still far from having given everything, especially on the Chinese market very greedy for this kind of product and with new engines that arrive, including a V12 and a hybrid.
As part of a restructuring which led to the layoffs of 500 employees, the production process was also revised, with the objective of moving to manufacturing its GT without having stocks to manage, and theSmall series models, such as the Valkyrie, whose first copies will be delivered, finally, in the second half, or the Valhalla, will multiply. Finally, the links with Mercedes-AMG continue to weave themselves, allowing access to an ever greater room base and thus reducing development costs.
2021 is also the year of the brand's return in Formula 1 with the AMR21, after having been absent for almost 60 years. The ambitions are great since rumors speak of the arrival of Sir Lewis Hamilton as a pilot and that contributes to redoing the winged coat of arms of Aston Martin if the American adage "race on Sunday, dirty on monday" (Race on Sunday, making sales on Monday) is confirmed.
The ambitious objective is to sell 6,000 cars by reducing losses as much as possible this year and reaching 10,000 units in 2025 at the latest, with income of 2 billion pounds (2.31 billion euros) for abenefits from 500 million pounds (578 million euros).
