The French equipment manufacturer Valeo is present at the Shanghai show to show its novelties in terms of electric mobility. The manufacturer notably unveils a 100 kW powertrain.
If you haven't understood it yet, know that equipment manufacturers and suppliers are as important - if not more so - than manufacturers, whether in terms of turnover or people employed throughout the world. So it's not really a surprise to find them at car shows.
Valeo, which has already made a specialty of 48V micro-hybridization, unveiled an "all-in-one" electric powertrain of 100 kW, which represents just under 137 hp. The inverter, the reducer and the motor are completely integrated in a pack which could be easily installed on compact vehicles of any brand. The equipment manufacturer is thus trying to seduce the major manufacturers who often do not develop electric motors in-house.
In any case, electric mobility is a huge opportunity for equipment manufacturers. Unlike combustion engines, most of the time designed and produced by manufacturers, electric motors can be more easily designed and developed by third parties, who can thus resell their creation to major brands. Yamaha, which does not build automobiles, notably recently unveiled a high-performance complete group for high-end vehicles, which can be purchased by automobile manufacturers.
