Nearly 150,000 BMWs and Minis produced for Europe are affected by an exhaust gas cooling problem before the EGR valve. A risk of fire forces the German group to check them in the workshop.
The BMW group announces a major recall campaign for vehicles sold in Europe and Great Britain. These are only diesel engine vehicles, of the BMW and Mini brands, produced between 2016 and 2017. The exact list is not known but it probably only concerns the small three and four cylinder engines, common to BMW and Mini.
The fault affects the EGR cooler, which has the role of cooling the exhaust gases in recirculation through the EGR valve. A coolant leak would lead to an increase in the temperature of the gases and the risk of overheating and fire.
The recall consists of a simple workshop check of the cooler to verify that there are no leaks, in which case the cooler will be replaced by BMW free of charge. Owners of BMW and Mini diesel vehicles from those years who have bought their vehicle second-hand and have not received a letter can always contact their dealership to check if their vehicle is concerned.
