According to the NGO ICCT, the Tesla/Honda/FCA and Ford/Volvo "pools" have failed to meet the CO2 targets in 2020. Result: they should pay for nearly 500 million fine euros to Europe.
The ICCT organization (International Council on Clean Transportation) has just published interesting data on the CO2 balance sheets of each automotive group in 2020. As a reminder, each of them had a personal objective to respect according to registrations, vehicle ranges and other parameters.
While BMW and PSA have been good students, this is not the case for the Volkswagen Group. Well, we already knew that. But the problem is that this is not the case with the FCA/Honda/Tesa and Ford/Volvo "pool" either. As a reminder, a "pool" is in fact an association of several manufacturers to join forces and have more easily attainable objectives. Very practical for brands like Tesla, which have CO2 credits to spare (since they only sell electrics), and for a Fiat Chrysler which needs to buy credits and share the advantageous value of a Tesla in order to to obtain a lower average.
According to the ICCT, the amount of the fines for these pools could reach 500 million euros, even if the value has not yet been confirmed by Brussels, joined by our colleagues from Auto-infos.
If the values were not respected in 2020 for these groups and pools, the task looks even more difficult in 2021 with more severe objectives, while Fiat Chrysler, Ford or Honda have very few pure electric vehicles to offer.
