In Amiens, the cold wave has done damage in the ranks of the city's electric buses. The municipality had to call on its old diesel buss in reinforcement.
The big unprecedented cold wave in certain regions of France has consequences on public transport. In Amiens, it is the electric buses which are, for the most part (37 out of 43), stuck in the depot. The fault with cold and a heat pump system (as on electric cars) ineffective at too low temperatures.
The boss of Kéolis Amiens (transport company) told our colleagues from France Bleu that the "temperature of around 10 ° inside buses" was not "socially acceptable", for passengers, but above all forthe driver. The heat pump is not the only problem: "There is a second problem which is linked to the frost which has been installed in the air bottles which feed the braking system. The system is therefore defaulting and the buses cannot start ".
Result: it is these good old diesel motor bus that stands out from their retirement to run a helping hand to the Amiens public transport network, which does not work at full speed.
The president of Amiens Métropole seems in any case annoyed by buses which have never been able to operate in full since their acquisition. The interested party explained that he had not "been specified that they (the buses) only worked in hot countries".
