Many of you will be traveling by car for Christmas and the New Year. Be careful if you take people from outside your household with you. Here are some tips to limit the risks.
On the eve of Christmas Eve, there will be people on the roads. Many French people will take their car to find their loved ones. Bison Futé has also hoisted the red flag on Île-de-France on December 23 in the direction of departures.
And, well before the family meal, the car trip is a risky step. The passenger compartment of a car combines the factors conducive to contamination: it is an enclosed place and where it is almost impossible to respect physical distance. Add to that the fact that you can stay on board for a long time.
Of course, if you are traveling with the people in your household, there is no special provision. But as soon as a member outside your family bubble gets into your car, like a cousin or a carpooler, be careful.
We must therefore not forget the protective gestures that have become commonplace, starting with wearing a mask in the car. It is also important to have hydroalcoholic gel in your vehicle and to apply it to your passengers before they board. Of course, avoid physical contact with people who are not from your household, for example by inviting them to load their luggage themselves.
The number of passengers is also important. If you carpool, it is best to limit the number of travelers you take to two. They must be placed at the rear, on each side of the bench seat. After they have been in your car, remember to disinfect the surfaces with which they may have come into contact.
Another very important aspect: ventilation, especially since in this winter period, we think less about opening the windows. It is therefore necessary to ventilate your cabin regularly. The best thing is to create a permanent air stream, by opting for two windows which can form an air "barrier": the one at the front opposite the driver and the one at the rear opposite the passenger seated on the bench seat.
