The C4 got an overall rating of four stars. The Citroën compact's score in adult protection is average.
In 2020, Euro NCAP inaugurated a more severe assessment, with an all-new frontal impact and a greater emphasis on driver assistance. Winning the famous five stars in the crash test is no longer so easy. The new Citroën C4 proves it. The third generation of the compact got "only" four stars.
The French is precisely not helped by the results of its equipment. Its automatic emergency braking has shortcomings. It performed poorly against cars (rating of 2.4/6) and against vulnerable road users (3.6/9).
In addition, in the event of an impact with a pedestrian, the latter's head is particularly exposed on the windscreen. As a result, in the chapter on the protection of vulnerable road users, the C4 had an overall score of 57%. For the equipment part, it is 63%. We are thus far from the Seat Leon, which had 71 and 80%.
These aspects of scoring may seem more secondary. But the most annoying thing is the very average score in the protection of adult passengers. Overall, the C4 scored 76%, a very low result for a generalist car. The low-cost Dacia Sandero had 70%, the Seat Leon reached 92%. In the event of a frontal impact, the legs of the driver and passenger are in danger. And in the event of a side impact, the driver's head may hit the opposite door!
The C4 raises its head with the protection of children, an area where it had 83%, in the average of the latest Euro NCAP results. Small passengers are well protected, the car especially loses points on the endowment of fasteners for car seats.
