New episode of Dieselgate. Volkswagen has confirmed that it has been indicted in France for deception on goods endangering the health of humans or animals. If we learn after that of Renault, this indictment dates back to May 6, according to a source familiar with the matter.
If the German manufacturer had recognized the presence of software capable of detecting the approval phases on eleven million TDI vehicles, it disputes "any prejudice" for French consumers. In this case, Volkswagen has always highlighted the differences in regulations between the United States and Europe. According to him, there is no fraud on our side of the Atlantic.
The scandal has already cost the group more than 30 billion euros. On the Old Continent, the group has signed an agreement in Germany to compensate the customers concerned and put an end to the legal case. But nothing of this kind in France. However, VW was recently ordered to compensate a French customer for €4,000.
According to the source familiar with the matter, Volkswagen was placed "under judicial control with the obligation to post a bond in the amount of 10 million euros and the obligation to provide security in the form of a bank guarantee for an amount of 60 million euros. euro".
Nicolas Huc-Morel, lawyer for the manufacturer, told AFP that Volkswagen had already paid in Germany in 2018 a fine of one billion euros "for identical alleged facts". For him, a double conviction in France should be prohibited, but "the examining magistrates answered us that, according to them, it was necessary to continue the investigations before deciding definitively on this subject".
