The Trinity de Volkswagen project will be based on a brand new platform that will cover all the group's electric models ... or almost, since Porsche will remain on a specific platform shared with Audi and Bentley.
Today, all compact and middle range electric models are based on the MEB modular platform of electric vehicles at Volkswagen.A recent platform, but which will be replaced in 2025 by the new SSP (Scalable Systems Platform), inaugurated by the Trinity project at Volkswagen.
From 2030, the SSP platform will be "the framework" of the Volkswagen group which will be turned almost 100 % towards electromobility. But the Germans never really liked simplicity.Porsche, who has specific needs, more high -end focused, will not use this platform.
However, it must be recognized that if the multiplicity of brands involves multiple solutions, it does not prevent the electric car from simplified - a little - the situation.Currently, the Volkswagen group uses a number of platforms (MQB, MLB, MSB, MSS ...), but from 2025, they will be reduced overall to SSP and PPE.
Porsche has indeed confirmed that the brand will use the PPE platform already in development and which will be used for the first time by the future electric Macan, from 2022. At Audi, its cousin will be the future Q6 e-tron.A PPE platform which will thus be shared with Audi and Bentley: for Audi, it will be a gain of 20 to 30 % on the single expenditure linked to the creation of a new platform. For Bentley, this platform will allow him to achieve his goal: the transition to the 100 % electric from 2030.
