Elon Musk said he tried to sell Tesla to Apple a few years ago when he was having trouble developing the Model 3.
Even during the Christmas holidays , Elon Musk makes the buzz with Tesla. In a series of tweets, the American billionaire has just made an astonishing revelation: he says he tried to sell Tesla to Apple.
Musk says he wanted to get in touch with Apple boss Tim Cook "during the darkest days of the Model 3 program" to "discuss the possibility of Apple buying Tesla for a tenth of its current value. But Tim Cook "refused the meeting".
So it was a few years ago, since the Model 3, developed while the manufacturer was accumulating losses, is now well launched. Its presentation dates back to the spring of 2016, the first deliveries in the United States took place in mid-2017. However, we had to wait until early 2019 for Europe.
A tenth of today's value would be about $60 billion. A bargain, therefore, when you see Tesla's current valuation, even if many believe that this does not reflect Tesla's real health in any way and believe that the manufacturer remains a financial bubble ready to burst. An opinion that competitors no longer really share, starting with Volkswagen. Now, Tesla is chaining positive quarters, even if this is primarily explained by the sale of CO2 credits. But the American is progressing each year towards the profitability of its automobile production.
Musk's tweets don't just happen. We learned yesterday that Apple still aims to launch an electric car by 2024.
