In the United States, Ford is launching an entry-level pick-up, the first with a hybrid engine.
In the United States, the pickup is king. The XXL pick-up of course! The best-selling podium in the country of Uncle Sam is occupied by models almost 6 meters in length. But the demand for shorter "trucks" is growing.
Ford thus recently relaunched the Ranger (nearly 5.40 meters) on the other side of the Atlantic. And today, the brand goes down another notch with the unprecedented Maverick, which still stretches over 5.08 meters! But next to its famous big brother F-150, it's a baby!
With the Maverick, described as a compact pick-up, Ford wants to attract new customers. The brand has also found a marketing formula that makes you smile: it's the pick-up for those who didn't think they wanted and needed a pick-up.
To seduce, the model has several assets. Perhaps not its design, quite bland and plain. But the Maverick is aggressively priced. In the US, it starts below the symbolic $20,000 mark, which is $5,000 less than the Ranger. $20,000 is the price of the EcoSport!
In addition, the vehicle is equipped with a hybrid engine, a first for a machine of this kind. This is shared with our Kuga. Ford thus highlights the fact that the Maverick hybrid has lower consumption than a Honda Civic, a compact that is very popular in the USA.
The Maverick also bets on a more civilized side than its big brothers. This can be seen inside, with a dashboard close to that of a classic car. The practical aspects are not forgotten, with in particular a skip that customers can customize with easy-to-fit accessories, such as rows of LEDs… or a bottle opener!
Ford currently has no plans to sell the Maverick in Europe.
