This might only be temporary given that the SUV was launched quite recently, but Ford now produces more Mustang Mach-Es than Mustangs.
This state of affairs may only be temporary and unprecedented, but it is nonetheless unprecedented. Over the first five months of the year, Ford produced just over 27,000 Mustang Mach-E, the electric SUV that takes on the most emblematic name in Ford's catalog since the Model T. How is this significant? Over the same period, Ford produced just 26,000 Mustangs from its Flat Rock, Michigan plant, including coupes and convertibles.
We are indeed talking about production, not demand, hence the fact that these figures are probably new and temporary. Ford must indeed accelerate the pace to deliver its electric SUV to early customers around the world, and in particular in Europe, where it recently became the best seller on the Norwegian market ahead of all other electric vehicles.
Our American colleagues also put forward another explanation: because of the shortage of semiconductors, Ford must establish priorities. And the Mustang Mach-E is a much bigger one than the Mustang.
