Mini will renew its Cooper range with a new electric one that will be produced in China. The three-cylinder gasoline should not be able to pass the Euro 7 standard. Only the four-cylinder should remain until the beginning of the next decade.
The new generation of Mini will arrive in 2023, and this will be the opportunity for the English manufacturer to finally leave on a real electric Cooper. The current Cooper SE is actually a somewhat special platform on which the BMW i3's powertrain has been installed. The next Cooper SE already promises to be much more specific, but above all, produced in China.
However, Mini will not abandon the heat engine. The brand, which intends to become 100% electric (like the vast majority of long-term manufacturers), should in fact start on two different platforms for its new icon: an electric version (borrowed from BMW's Chinese partner, Great Wall Motors) , and the others, with petrol engines, designed by the BMW group.
The three-cylinder B38 should not be able to pass the Euro 7 standard, which would mean that only the four-cylinder B48 (2.0) will be offered, especially on the convertible. The combustion engine Mini will thus survive until the beginning of the next decade, when the next generation will be launched, which will indeed be 100% electric.
