As a consequence, to say the least, unexpected of the shortage of semiconductors: General Motors will withdraw the Stop&Start from the production of several V8 models.
The shortage of semiconductors which is currently shaking the automotive industry continues to disrupt production. Many groups are now forced to make choices in order to favor the best-selling models to the detriment of certain niche cars.
At General Motors, the problems of supply of electronic components leads to an unprecedented situation. The American giant has indeed decided not to install a Stop&Start system on many models, which are usually equipped with this equipment as standard.
All of the cars concerned are "full size" SUVs and pick-ups with a V8 engine and ten-speed automatic gearbox: GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra or Chevrolet Suburban. General Motors has specified that this decision would allow the group to maintain the production of these "highly demanded" models, while the rebound is significant in the automobile.
General Motors will offer a discount of 50 dollars on the purchase price of the vehicle for the absence of Stop&Start, which leads to a slight increase in overall consumption compared to the homologation data.
