While waiting for the purely electric vehicle to find a more important place in the ranges of manufacturers to meet all needs and for the possibilities of fast charging to multiply throughout the territory, more political or economic clicks than technical, the best alternative to 100% combustion today remains the hybrid, whether rechargeable or not, when you want to have only one car. And there is the choice: more than 300 models are scattered in the vast majority of categories and we have made an exhaustive list of them, specifying the best.
It has been more than 20 years since the Prius, the first hybrid vehicle - that is to say equipped with a combustion engine and an electric one working together or separately - was marketed but, however mature the technology, their share in the new car market has long remained quite limited, even if constantly increasing. But 2020 has been a pivotal year, well helped above all by an ever more severe penalty: one in ten new cars sold in France is now hybrid against one in twenty a year earlier.
A pioneer in the field, Toyota maintains control of the market since its petrol/electric cars, which are particularly numerous, represent more than 50% of hybrid sales in France, to which are added those of Lexus, its premium brand.
Another factor that has strongly contributed to this progress: French manufacturers have finally gotten into it with the arrival of the DS7 Crossback, Peugeot 3008 and 508 sedan as well as SW, Citroën C5 Aircross and Renault Clio, Captur and Mégane in hybrid or plug-in hybrid version. And it's a success since they monopolize the podium of the best French sales in the category in 2020.
We have brought together in this file the hundred hybrids and plug-in hybrids available today on the French market by dividing them by category and specifying for each of them the most interesting models.
