As part of our show dedicated to hybrid and electric vehicles, we offer you a complete update on the aid available for the purchase of an electrified vehicle. The bonus is allocated to electric and plug-in hybrids. The conversion bonus concerns hybrids, plug-in hybrids and electrics. But it's a bit of a gas plant, with variable amounts and constraints. We try to see it clearly.
How to benefit from the conversion bonus?
Since June 2020, the rule has been the same for everyone: you must scrap a petrol vehicle whose first entry into service took place before January 1, 2006 or a diesel vehicle whose first entry into service took place before January 1, 2011.
What is a modest non-taxable household?
The State grants a super-bonus to the most modest. This concerns households with a reference tax income per unit (RFR/P) less than or equal to €6,300. This is also valid for those whose RFR/P is under €13,490 who have a home/work journey of more than 30 km or have an annual mileage of at least 12,000 km. There is a constraint for the super-premium: it is limited to 80% of the price of the car.
ELECTRICALThe bonus for new vehicles
It concerns all people, regardless of income level, for a new vehicle. Good news: the maximum aid has increased in 2020, in order to revive the market after the first confinement. And as there has been a new confinement, the State has decided to extend this boost until June 30, 2021.
The aid depends on the price of the car and the maximum bonus of €7,000 still applies within the limit of 27% of the acquisition cost, taking into account the cost of the battery. A ceiling that mainly concerns small city cars, like the new Twingo Electric.

> For passenger cars and vans with a GVW between 3,500 and 4,500 kg, there is a €4,000 bonus for everyone.
> Please note - Local authorities offer assistance that is added to that of the State. It's up to you to find out if there are any in your town, your department, your region.
Used car bonus
Since December 2020, there is a bonus on used electric vehicles. The amount is €1,000 for natural persons. The used vehicle, passenger car or utility vehicle, must be at least two years old and must be kept for at least two years.
The conversion bonus - New or used vehicle
It applies in addition to the bonus. All households receive assistance of €2,500 for a new or used model. This aid is doubled to €5,000 for the most modest households (see definition at the top of the page). The vehicle must cost less than €60,000 and the aid is capped at 80% of the acquisition cost.
PLUG-IN HYBRIDSThe bonus - New vehicle
It was one of the great novelties of 2020. To help the French to convert, the government set up a bonus of €2,000 on rechargeable hybrids, under 51 g/km of CO2 and with sufficient electric autonomy. , which is 50 km with the urban WLTP cycle. In addition, the vehicle must cost less than €50,000.
Please note, from July 1, 2021, the bonus will be halved, i.e. €1,000.
The scrapping bonus - New or used vehicle
In addition to the new bonus, there is still the scrapping bonus. Attention, there are constraints to have the maximum aids. Already, you have to choose a model of less than 60,000 € whose CO2 rate is under 51 g/km (this is not always the case). Then there is an electric range constraint (50 km in electric with the urban WLTP cycle). If this criterion is met, there is a €2,500 scrapping bonus for everyone, and €5,000 for the most modest. The aid is capped at 80% of the acquisition cost.
If the autonomy constraint is not respected, the premium for "classic" vehicles is valid.
Conversion bonus for plug-in hybrids up to 50 g/km of CO2 With range restrictionWithout range restriction New or UsedNew or UsedFor everyone€2,500€1,500The most modest households€5,000€3,000These are all simply the aid promised to other Crit'Air 1 petrol vehicles (new or used), it is therefore reserved for those who have an RFR/P of less than €13,490, with an aid of €1,500, doubled to €3,000 for the most modest (see definition at the top of the page). But it's not really the customers of plug-in hybrids, who remain expensive.
LIGHTWEIGHT OR SIMPLE HYBRIDSThe scrapping bonus - New or used vehicle
For these models, there is no particular provision. The rules therefore follow those of conventional thermal vehicles. You must choose a vehicle under €50,000 that emits less than 109 g/km of CO2 according to the NEDC standard or 137 g/km according to the WLTP standard.
Since August 1, 2019, assistance is limited to Crit'Air 1 petrol vehicles (new or used) and Crit'Air 2 diesel vehicles (new or used put into service after September 1, 2019). In addition, the aid is reserved for households with an RFR/P of less than €13,490.
By following these criteria, you get €1,500 in aid, €3,000 for the most modest (see definition at the top of the page). With an RFR/P above €13,489, it's €0.
