. Just because we didn't ride so much. But watch out for the batteries, especially during the good weather.
Automotive activity accounts for almost two thirds of the turnover of service professionals. But, thanks to the successive confinements to which the French were subjected last year, our dear cars have (a little) experienced fewer failures.
The National Union of Assistance Societies (SNSA, 9 assistance companies representing 96% of the profession) reported 6.4 million cases handled last year, a decrease of 10.5% compared to 2019. Never before, convenience store memory.
However, if there are fewer claims, they are more expensive because of the increasing complexity of cars (which explains why premiums are falling at a slower rate than the number of accidents, moreover).
In detail, we also learn that a peak of failures had been recorded at the end of May, due to the forced immobilization that had literally emptied many batteries. On the other hand, having to stay close to one's home will have led to an increase in troubleshooting within 50 km of home (up to 32% more cases among some providers).
With the same causes having the same effects, 2021 followed the same trend with very calm activity in the first quarter. Just a cold wave to report in mid-February, which led to a peak of activity described as "exceptional" by the SNSA.
Finally, while it is still too early to identify major trends in electric cars, experts note that electric cars are increasingly being addressed, particularly because of their difficulties in coping with extreme temperatures. This is also true of thermal cars, which paradoxically run out of batteries more in the summer than in the winter.
