It is now recorded and validated: the last thermal model will come out of the assembly lines of Audi factories in 2026. From this date, the new Audis will be electric.
The arrival in 2026 of the Audi Q8 e-tron will coincide with another milestone at the manufacturer with the rings: the end of the combustion engine, with the last units leaving the factories the same year.
The Sueddeutsche Zeitung quotes Audi boss Markus Duesmann as confirming this to union representatives and internal leaders. Audi should at the same time stop hybrids, since the petrol units would gradually no longer be produced. And that would at the same time put an end to the V10, notably used by Lamborghini, which implies that the descendant of the Huracan will be 100% electric.
This also means that the rest of the range, and in particular the compacts (A3, Q3, etc.) will then be electric at the time of renewal.
Audi would be the first of the three high-end German manufacturers to completely abandon the combustion engine, since Mercedes and especially BMW have already confirmed that the all-electric would present strong constraints on the supply of certain metals, and that the combustion engine has still years of interest before the total switch to electric.
