Within three years, Volvo will renew its world bestseller, the XC60 SUV. It will occasionally go electric, even abandoning rechargeable hybridization.
Volvo has been confirming in its press presentations for more than a year now that the future is electric. And it will not be necessary to wait 10 years, or more, before seeing the catalog being completely converted. At least half of the models will be electric from 2025, and by this date, a certain XC60 will have already been renewed.
When announcing the partnership with Northvolt, Volvo also clarified that its future XC60, which should be launched in 2024, will be electric only. Before that, Volvo will have renewed its XC90 with, for the first time in the history of the large Swedish SUV, an electric variant, probably launched next year alongside plug-in hybrids (diesel will disappear).
This future XC60 will be the first Volvo model to benefit from the batteries resulting from the collaboration with Northvolt. The transition to electric will also involve a change of platform with a very likely switch to the SEA modular platform of Volvo's Chinese owner, Geely.
