At Lexus, you won't find a plug-in hybrid in the dealership. Not yet, in any case, since the brand confirms its first launch in this area in 2021. A new electric based on a dedicated platform will follow in 2022.
Changing the philosophy of a brand like Lexus is not easy. Focused on the hybrid for two good decades, Lexus has not frankly followed the madness of certain groups who bet all their pawns on 100% electric. The Japanese manufacturer does offer a UX300e, but this is above all a great tinkering with an existing hybrid model, with a platform that is clearly not designed for electrics.
Next year, Lexus will finally launch its first true electric, thought and designed as such from the start. A car that should be quite close to its Toyota cousin (BZ4X). This is a half-surprise since the LF-Z concept already announced new 100% electric models.
For those who would like to stay hybrid, there will be a transitional solution. Lexus plans a dozen models powered by an electric motor by 2025, including hybrids and electrics. But starting this year, Lexus will launch its first plug-in hybrid, which should be based on the NX SUV.
