Mercedes recalls some 264,000 GLC and class C worldwide for a risk of fire air conditioning gas.The very one who had almost banned the sale of Mercedes in France.
Remember, it was almost ten years ago.At that time, Europe decided to abandon CO2 as air conditioning gas in cars to impose the "R1234YF".A gas that Mercedes then considered too flammable and dangerous. After a few adventures in justice, Mercedes finally gives up and goes to this new gas.
To go to R1234YF, Mercedes had to do a lot of adaptation to the level of the piping and the joints of its air conditioning system, and to associate an "inerting" system, based on Argon.Concretely, this inerting system makes it possible to fill or purge an air conditioning in an inert atmosphere in order to avoid any risk of fire.
This same inerting system is today in question in a recall affecting 264,000 GLC and class C Products between 2016 and 2020.If half of these vehicles are in Germany, the other part is dispersed all over Europe and in the world.French models are therefore most likely concerned in this lot.
