Mercedes is reorganizing internally: AMG, Maybach and Class G will now be three brands integrated into a particular group, led by the current boss of AMG.
What are the links between a Mercedes G-Class, an AMG and a Maybach? A priori, apart from the Mercedes bases and certain engines, not much. However, these three names of “capital importance” for the manufacturer will now be united under the same group internally, with common management. Objective: to maintain the exclusivity of models, but above all to increase synergies and sharing, and reduce costs.
Again and again the search for financial efficiency visibly very dear to Ola Kallenius, the CEO of Daimler who had already announced a cleaning in the Mercedes catalog in order to focus on models that sell well.
It is Philipp Schiemer, the current boss of AMG who will take over the management of this new entity which will however remain anchored at Mercedes, and will not take any independence. However, it will remain interesting to see what the development axes will be to share the costs, and therefore the technologies and platforms. The first answers, most certainly, will come at the IAA 2021 in Munich, next September.
