In 2020, the electric car market has heated up in Europe, which is now the largest market globally. So much so that more electric cars have been sold in Germany than in the United States.
Europe is often singled out for its technological backwardness compared to certain large countries, and for its reluctance to adopt new technical solutions. But this time we are clearly ahead of the Americans and the Asians. In 2020, penetrations of electric cars in Europe were impressive.
10% in Sweden, 20% in the Netherlands, more than 50% in Norway, the market share of electric cars has exploded on the Old Continent. So much so that this leads to unprecedented situations: for example, more electric vehicles were sold in Germany than in all of the United States last year. A market however largely served by Tesla, which nevertheless seems to be running out of steam on its own soil. Logical, given that the offer is premium oriented, and that Tesla's growth is now driven by Chinese and soon European factories.
It must also be said that competition is now tougher for Tesla, especially in Europe where German manufacturers are waking up. The arrival of the ID 3 has particularly turned the hierarchy upside down.
France was not to be outdone with a 7% market share, equal to that of the United Kingdom and Germany, but with lower volumes.
