Europe has validated a text which makes it possible to vary the prices of tolls according to polluting rejections of the vehicle.
It is not in France that we have no shortage of ideas to tax motorists. At European level, we are doing a lot.Europe has thus adopted a text which will allow the Member States to vary the price of tolls according to their pollution.
Thus, if it is a question of being able to lighten the prices for the cleanest vehicles, starting with electricity, the text is above all intended to set up a toll penalty for the most polluting models.
The idea is based on the Eurovignette standard. It is a tax that applies for the moment to heavy goods vehicles, that they must pay if they want to drive in certain European countries (Denmark, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Sweden). The tax depends in particular on the number of axles and the Euro pollution standard.
Europe thus makes it possible to expand the system, geographically with states that wish, and in terms of vehicles, with the possibility of taxing passenger vehicles.Currently, the price (2021) for an annual eurovignette with a vehicle of one to three axles varies from € 750 to € 1,407 depending on the standard.
We can therefore imagine for France the return of a sticker, which would be accumulated at the cost of the usual toll.Once the European text has been promulgated, states will have two years to include this system in their laws.
