Bad surprise for Dacia: the new Sandero only had two stars in the Euro NCAP crash test.
The independent organisation Euro NCAP has just published new crash test results, including a much awaited one: that of the new Dacia Sandero. Bad news for the brand: the third generation of its city car only had two stars. Of course, the low-cost specialist did not expect to have a maximum score of five stars!
Not surprisingly, the car is blocked by the lack of state-of-the-art equipment. However, Euro NCAP has regularly changed its rating to give more points to the presence and effectiveness of driver aids, in particular emergency braking.
While the Sandero has won an automatic emergency braking, it only works in front of the cars. There are no pedestrians and cyclists detected. The Dacia is therefore heavily penalised, with low scores for the parts "Protection of vulnerable road users" and "Safety equipment", with only 41% and 42%. There is one good thing to stress: the Sandero's emergency braking has worked well in front of the cars.
In the more traditional categories, the Dacia is also struggling, although it is well on average. It scored 70% for the protection of adults. However, the torso protection of front occupants is moderate in frontal impact. And in the event of a side impact, the driver's head is in danger.
For child protection, the score is 72%. Again, the Sandero loses points due to the equipment, with no ISOFIX / I-Size attachment at the front. However, Euro NCAP also considered the protection of older children in the event of a frontal impact to be poor.
With two stars, can the Sandero be considered a dangerous car? of course not! The car provides the essentials for the proper protection of its occupants. The result, which is strongly related to the equipment, is clearly acceptable given the pricing position. Dacia points out that the car has a 4-star level for occupant protection.
