The Vivaro-e Hydrogen announces a range of more than 400 km. The first copies will be delivered at the end of 2021.
Like Renault, the Stellantis group is putting a foot in the fuel cell vehicle market via utilities. Opel, which had received the mission of overseeing the hydrogen program of the PSA group, has just unveiled the Vivaro-e Hydrogen. Two big advantages compared to the classic electric version, launched a few weeks ago: increased autonomy, with more than 400 km, and a full tank of hydrogen which is done in three minutes.
The three hydrogen tanks at 700 bars take the place of the battery of the all-electric model. The entire fuel cell system is housed under the hood. The loading volumes therefore do not change. The Vivaro-e Hydrogen is offered with the two largest utility lengths, 4.95 and 5.30 meters. Opel announces volumes of 5.3 and 6.1 m3. The payload is 1100 kg.
The brand says the 45kW fuel cell "is capable of generating enough power for continuous highway driving." There remains a 10.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, under the seats, which provides additional power when necessary, for example when starting and when driving. This battery, which recovers the energy released during braking, can be recharged externally. It gives 50 km of autonomy.
The vehicle will be produced in Germany, at Opel's "special vehicles" site. The first units will be delivered in the fall, for fleet customers. The price is not yet known.
