According to the agency AlixPartners, the shortage of semiconductors could cost the trifle of 110 billion dollars to the global automotive industry.
Even if they don't always agree on everything, the big auto industry bosses are on the same wavelength this time: the shortage of microprocessors and semiconductors is hurting, and should impact them at least until at the end of 2021. For some, it is even very disabling. At Ford, for example, half of world production is shut down. Production suspensions that we no longer even count, as they have multiplied and prolonged in recent months.
The consulting agency AlixPartners has just made a forecast commensurate with the scale of the disaster. The shortage would generate 110 billion dollars in losses for the automotive industry, obviously counting the manufacturers but also the equipment manufacturers and subcontractors.
The consulting firm recalls an interesting fact: today, there are on average 1400 microprocessors in a car, and this value obviously continues to grow. We then understand a little better the immoderate appetite of manufacturers for these essential elements of the modern car.
