With the relief of Japanese production thanks to its Indian factory, Suzuki could launch a five-door version of its Jimny within two years.
The Suzuki Jimny faced its immediate success when it launched the current generation JB64. The Japanese factory in Shizuoka, the only one to produce this small, robust and inexpensive franchisor, found itself totally overwhelmed by world demand. As a result, delivery times have increased to over a year in developed markets. Since then, Suzuki has found a solution with the Indian factory in Gurgaon, which handles the export of the Jimny for Africa, South America and the Middle East.
This gives some air to Japanese production which, according to our Japanese colleagues, could add a five-door version within two years, when the situation will have stabilized and delivery times will be completely back to normal.
If the "long" Jimny is a possibility within two years, particularly on the occasion of the restyling of the small Japanese 4x4, another rumor announces the possibility of a turbocharged engine on this larger and therefore heavier version. Currently, Suzuki only has two turbo engines that could match: the three-cylinder 1.0 and the four-cylinder 1.4. But these motors were not developed for a longitudinal position.
