The conditions for benefiting from a scrapping bonus will become more severe on July 1, with in particular the end of the bonus for diesel.
Please note, just like the ecological bonus, the scrapping bonus will become less generous from July 1, 2021. The government had postponed this change for six months, due to health measures which had weighed down the automobile market too much in 2020.
If the market has not yet regained form, there is no question of a new postponement. The government believes that customers have had plenty of time to take advantage of it, especially since the conditions before the change concern vehicles ordered before July 1 but with deliveries that can be made until September 30.
If the State does not touch the amounts of the cash bonus, which remains up to €5,000, it reduces the number of vehicles concerned.
The main changesThe end for dieselThis is a real turning point for the scrapping bonus, a small victory for the Minister of Ecological Transition Barbara Pompili. This time, it will no longer be possible to take advantage of a bonus to buy a diesel, even new with the latest standards.
A CO2 ceiling lowered againIt's a quiet but important change. Once again, the ceiling for CO2 emissions has been lowered. That is, the limit below which the new vehicle must stay. The threshold drops from 137 to 132 g/km (WLTP standard), which will exclude many vehicles. However, this limit applies to new vehicles and used vehicles less than six months old. Beyond that, it remains at 137 g/km in WLTP (109 g/km in NEDC).
The rules from July 1, 2021Which vehicles benefit from them? There remain the models with a Crit'Air Green or 1 sticker. We therefore have in this lot the 100% electric models, plug-in hybrids, simple hybrids with gasoline engine, classic gasoline models. Keeping in mind that you have to be in the nails in CO2. Please note there is also a maximum price: €60,000 for models under 50 g/km of CO2, €50,000 for the rest.
Which vehicles to scrap? It doesn't change. It must be a petrol model first put into service before 2006, or a diesel first put into service before 2011. The vehicle must be registered in France, belong to the owner for one year, not be pledged.
What are the income requirements? No change either. For those who have an RFR/P (reference tax income per unit) greater than €13,489, the aid is limited to electric and rechargeable hybrids with sufficient electric range. There is always a doubling of aid for the most modest.
Who is considered “more modest”?You must have an RFR/P under €6,301. Or you have to be under €13,490 and have a home/work journey of more than 30 km (or travel more than 12,000 km per year).
