PSA announces this morning the transfer of the production of EP3 petrol engines of Douvrin, in France, to the Opel site in Hungary. For unions, this is a sign of the scheduled closure of the Douvrin factory.
Douvrin in danger? The unions firmly believe in it.PSA has just announced this morning that the third generation EP petrol engine (PureTech range) will no longer be produced in Douvrin, but in Szentgottard, in Hungary, on the Opel site. There is therefore only the production of DV-R, a diesel engine that will be stopped from 2022.
According to the CFDT, this sounds the death knell of Douvrin since these engines currently occupy the "three -quarters" of the jobs of the site. But all unions are not on the same wavelength: the CFTC recalls that Douvrin must accommodate the production of electric cars batteries from 2023, which could potentially avoid any loss of employment.
The unions are probably worried rightly that factories' jobs in France specially specialize in "all electric", as the CFTC secretary said.
If the jobs are actually saved thanks to the arrival of the batteries following the creation of ACC (Automotive Cells Company), it does not prevent the departure of petrol engines and the end of the diesel seems in any case ringing the death knellof the French mechanics, which is in its 51st year.
