The second family of E-Tech engines will develop up to 200 hp for the simple hybrid and 280 hp for the plug-in hybrid.
During the Renault Talk press conference, Gilles Le Borgne, group engineering director, gave some interesting information on Renault's second family of hybrid engines, for "upper segments, and in particular compact SUVs ".
These new E-Tech blocks will thus be inaugurated by the replacement for the Kadjar and its derivatives. Renault is preparing three vehicles: the classic compact SUV, a long 7-seater version and a coupe variant. These future fighters will therefore have electrified engines designed in-house and not taken over from Alliance partners, Nissan and Mitsubishi. Renault was supposed to use Mitsubishi's plug-in technology, but it is not suitable for the upcoming Euro 7 standard.
While the base of the first family is a four-cylinder petrol 1.6, for these new engines it will be an all-new 3-cylinder 1.2 liter. But the powers will be much higher. While Renault's first simple hybrid announces 140 or 145 hp depending on the model, it will be up to 200 hp with these new blocks. And for the rechargeable hybrid, the maximum power will be 280 hp, instead of 160 hp on the Captur and Mégane E-Tech Plug-in. The rechargeable version will be a four-wheel drive.
Gilles Le Borgne has indicated that the new simple hybrid engine will be ready in 2022, the year of the launch of the replacement for the Kadjar. On the other hand, it will be necessary to wait until 2024 for the rechargeable hybrid
