Renault tries to enter a still embryonic market by signing an agreement with Plug Power to reach 30 % of market share of hydrogen vehicles for hydrogen.
Renault has decided to associate itself with an American expert in the fuel cell to try to break into a niche market, that of the light hydrogen utility.Renault is not any novice in the matter since the diamond already had an agreement with Symbio. An agreement not questioned, but the projects in Renault hydrogen will now be centralized in the co-company created with Plug Power.
The company will be established in France and will allow Renault to develop, design and produce light fuel cells in France. The exact amount is not communicated, but it is around tens of millions of euros.
For Renault, it will not be a question of simply selling vehicles, but also stations that go with it for customers who will be mainly professional. One formula all in one, turnkey, in a way.
Plug Power, for its part, has already equipped thousands of electric vehicles for Walmart or Amazon in the United States with a fuel cell.
The first deployments of pilot fleets will take place during the year in Europe.
