The Renault plant in Sandouville will have to cease its activity for nearly three weeks, due to a shortage of spare parts and in particular of semiconductors.
The Sandouville plant is one of the most important for Renault since it is the one that produces the Trafic, NV300 and Mitsubishi Express utilities. It is also the first plant in the group to start producing Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi at the same time.
But because of the global shortage of semiconductors, Renault is forced to stop production for 13 days by the end of July, "unheard of" according to the labor force union. A factory which is nevertheless in Renault's priorities at European level.
This precisely demonstrates the growing tension in the electronic components sector since manufacturers are reduced to having to prioritize production, and if the Sandouville plant is shut down, it is because Renault really has to concentrate only on consumer models, and only them.
In the United States, in particular, this shortage leads to unexpected consequences, with in particular the removal of certain equipment such as Stop&Start or even the cessation of production of certain models so that the brands can continue assembling the most important models.
