The joint venture created by Stellantis and Total will begin to assemble batteries in Pas-de-Calais at the end of 2023.The site could generate 1,400 to 2,000 jobs.
The COCENTERPRISE ACC (Automotive Cells Company) has given details on its giant battery factory project for electric vehicles which will be located in Douvrin (Pas-de-Calais).As a reminder, ACC was born from a 50/50 partnership between SAFT, a subsidiary of Total, and PSA, now become Stellantis with Fiat.
The factory will partly take the place of the current French Mechanics factory, which produces thermal engines for PSA brands.We cannot do better as a symbol of changes that shake up the automotive industry!
The construction of a first block of this factory must start in 2022.The start of production is hoped for before the end of 2023.Yann Vincent, Director General of ACC, said that 350 to 500 people will work in this first block in 2024: "The manufacturing processes that we will use are very automated and very sharp in their driving.We will need drivers of competent automated lines, maintenance professionals, some chemistry experts, quality technicians ".
A second block will then be built in Douvrin.A third will be at the Opel factory in Kaiserslautern, Germany in Germany.The objective is to have an annual capacity of 8 GWh at the beginning and to reach in 2030 a total of 48 GWh.AP thinks to be able to provide a million cars.Yann Vincent said in this regard: "We are intended to serve Stellantis, but not only.We are already discussing with all manufacturers.Our ambition is to be the European leader in cells and battery modules for electric vehicles ".
In 2030, the Douvrin site should count from 1400 to 2000 employees.
