After its domestic market, after Europe and after China, Tesla now intends to launch in India, which obviously represents immense potential in what should quickly become the most populous country on the planet.
Tesla is currently absent from one of the markets with the greatest growth potential in the world: India. Still emerging, India will nevertheless become a formidable pool of customers for premium brands, especially if the country decides to take second place in terms of air quality and restrictions.
In any case, the Indian Minister of Transport announced that Tesla will soon be selling cars in India. Something that was later confirmed by the boss of the manufacturer, Elon Musk, on his Twitter account, without specifying the date of entry of Tesla in India. But obviously it won't be long.
The Indian media are already talking about a price of 5.5 million rupees, or just over €60,000 for the Model 3, which will thus be placed almost at European prices. It should be noted that India is very late in terms of electrification: only two general models are offered for sale: the Hyundai Kona EV and the MG ZS EV. But they are not selling very well, with Indians preferring low-cost models from Mahindra and Tata.
Tesla thus has a real shot at it, as long as rival high-end brands do not offer anything on the matter in what could become the new high-growth global market in the decades to come.
