We take the same ones and start again: the Toyota Corolla is again the best-selling car in the world in 2020. It can still thank the American market, which also drives the sales of the 2nd and 3rd best-selling car.
You don't change a winning team since the best-selling car in the world in 2020, despite the crisis, is still Japanese, and still a Toyota. The one that is in its twelfth generation and has been sold continuously since the late 1960s continues to perform globally.
Despite the crisis, the Corolla sold 1.134 million units in 2020. This is less than in 2019 (1.243 million), but it is still more than the passenger car competition. The Corolla also dominates a Top 10 marked by the presence of many Asians: behind the compact Toyota, we find the Toyota RAV4, the Honda CRV and the Honda Civic. Obviously, the American market is no stranger to these exceptional sales. The European premiere is the Volkswagen Golf, in 9th place, but with a big drop in sales (689,000 in 2019, 492,000 in 2020).
Focus2Move, which produces these rankings, has voluntarily separated the pick-up category, which is ultimately rather coherent. Ford's F Series sold 968,000 units, ahead of the Chevrolet Silverado (637,000 units) and the Dodge RAM (631,000 units). The GMC Sierra is struggling since it is overtaken by the Toyota Hilux, in 4th place, however far from the top three with just over 300,000 units sold. But it once again shows Toyota's strength internationally.
