The Automotive Professions Council announces that it has set up a working group to reflect on the question of recycling hybrid and electric cars in France.
So far, the question of recycling batteries and electrified cars hardly arose. There were far too few of them on the road, and their lifespan means that the very first electrical components and vehicles to be recycled are only now beginning to arrive. However, the sector for the recovery of end-of-life vehicles is not yet really ready.
The National Council for Automotive Professions has just set up a working group aimed at bringing together all the information concerning the treatment of these vehicles: the cost of recycling and dismantling, risk management, the problem environmental. Already in 2018, the sector was talking about the very high cost of processing these vehicles, partly borne by the manufacturers. But for how long ?
"The number of hybrid and electric vehicles (HEVs) supported in 2018 is 768 ELVs. This number remains very low (0.0005%) compared to all ELVs supported but is still even up sharply compared to 2017 (273 ELVs). The upward trend has been confirmed for the past three years, which is why it is necessary to anticipate developments in the market for hybrid and electric vehicles", explained to us. the CNPA. The figures for 2019 and 2020 are not yet communicated.
While manufacturers do indeed have a secondary route for batteries, in particular as an energy storage unit for homes and communities, the fact remains that this decade will have to be that of the implementation real recycling protocols for very specific vehicles.
