The ACEA has communicated on the registration figures for passenger cars in Europe for the first quarter. The share of hybrids has doubled in one year.
The European automotive market is changing at high speed. Or, at least, that of new registrations. It is not in the short or medium term that we will have a significant share of electric or hybrid cars on the roads, but the machine is launched. The ACEA (Association of European Automobile Manufacturers) has just communicated the energy mix of registrations in the first quarter.
First observation: if you thought that the fall in diesel had reached its low point, you can review your copy. Diesel's market share fell from 30 to 23% in one year. At the same time, the hybrid continues its mad progression. The simple hybrid doubled, reaching 470,000 units and an 18.4% market share. Clearly, in a short time, the market share of diesel and that of the simple hybrid will cross.
The plug-in hybrid is also growing with 8.2% market share and just over 208,000 registered units. This is the highest increase, with 175% increase. Pure battery electrics are progressing much more slowly, with a 59% increase and a market share of 5.7%.
