Transformer une quatre roues motrices enpropulsion est facile sur le papier. But in reality, it's a little more complex.Nevertheless, this kind of project has become more democratized, in particular with the very wise...Volkswagen Golf.
AVolkswagen Golf by square, with the rear wheels burning gum?It may be possible to see this on the new Golf R, with a special all-wheel drive with a specific and new rear axle. But it must be said: BMW has been the only manufacturer in Europe in recent years to sell a compact sedan with rear transmission.
If we look at the case of preparers and independent teams, there has been a funny trend in recent times: to pass the golf inpropulsion. In the fall, already, a Finnish team had distinguished itself with a Golf 7 housing a BMW V8 and a transmission tree directed to the rear axle.Insured persons.
TheVolkswagen Golf GTI "easily" transformed intopropulsion
This time, it is an American team that reveals a heavily modified Golf 5 GTI.But the project had a particularity: to use only parts of the Volkswagen group. The entire transmission is replaced by that of a Golf 5 R32 recovered with scrap. However, there was a constraint: original, the Haldex four -wheel drive system of golf works in default traction, and sends the power (up to 50 %) at the rear on request.Remove the two front half-arbs would have resulted in nothing since the car could simply no longer advance. We had to change the Haldex control module to "force" it to work permanently, thus allowing the rear wheels to constantly have. The rear differential, glued to the Haldex, was also welded to improve the sliding capacities of the car.
The 500 hp were unfortunately too much for poor Haldex. This golf, with an original power, would have worked very well, and shows that the transformation is not impractical. The objective was this one: to prove that it is relatively easy to find parts and transform a traction on the basis of a golf platform in four-wheel drive or...propulsion.
