While its European production is now almost totally focused on the hybrid, Toyota announces the arrival of a brand new twin-turbo gasoline engine in the United States.
The climate is obviously only a local affair and not really global. Manufacturers operating internationally have always adapted to local expectations. If Europeans prefer compact cars and, on average, small economical engines, the American wants XXL. And while Toyota is betting everything on the hybrid in Europe (excluding niche products such as the Supra and GR Yaris), the Japanese brand is letting go a little more on the other side of the Atlantic.
Toyota will indeed unveil a brand new gasoline engine on its next Tundra pickup. A V6 3.5 biturbo, called "iForce". Why is this a small event? So don't believe that what you see in Europe is the reflection of a global reality. The French Toyota is not the global Toyota, which renews its Land Cruiser with a new gasoline V6, and its Tundra pick-up with a good old engine producing controlled explosions.
The observation is also similar for other manufacturers: electric for Genesis in Europe, but large gasoline engine elsewhere, the largest V8 in automobile production for Ford in the USA, but Ecoboost, light and electric hybridization at the European subsidiary...
