The new company born of the agreements between Renault and the American group Plug Power will be called Hyvia. It is dedicated to hydrogen mobility for utilities.
Hydrogen version Hyvia, it will be first for the Master. On the one hand, Renault and its bet on hydrogen for commercial vehicles. On the other, Plug Power, an American company that is the world leader in fuel cell systems. And in the middle, a newly born joint venture called Hyvia, with “Hy” as hydrogen and “via” as road. And things will move quickly since the first utility vehicles running on hydrogen will be marketed from the end of this year. The happy precursor is the Renault Master with three versions on the menu, in a van version and large volume cab chassis for the transport of goods, and in a City Bus version for the transport of people. Hyvia announces that this commercialization will be accompanied by an offer of charging stations and the supply of green hydrogen. And that the chosen technology will provide a range of up to 500 kilometers and a quick recharge time of three minutes.
Everything in FranceAll of Hyvia's activities will be located in France. The head office and R&D will be based in Villiers-Saint-Frédéric; the process, manufacturing and logistics teams will be located in Flins to start the assembly of the fuel cells, the first Masters will be produced at the Batilly plant and the integration of the fuel cells will take place in Gretz-Armanvilliers.
For Luca di Meo, head of the Renault group, “this joint venture uniquely integrates the entire hydrogen mobility ecosystem, from the vehicle, infrastructure and turnkey services for customers. The development of this advanced technology allows us to strengthen our industrial tool and to establish new value-generating activities in France in this promising segment”. Very promising even since the new company intends to aim for more than 30% of the market share of hydrogen light commercial vehicles in Europe in 2030.
