Volkswagen is launching an online sales service for its ID 3 and ID 4 in Germany where the process is entirely digital, including the final stage of payment, which is usually done in dealerships.

The remote activation of options starts from the principle that all cars have, as soon as the factory is out, with all the necessary electronic equipment (sensors, processors, screens...)). Si cela simplifie les choses côté production, cela n'impliquerait-il pas aussi un surcoût, puisque toutes les voitures sont dotées du maximum de la technologie ? En effet, tous les clients n'utiliseront pas toutes les fonctionnalités (et ne les paieront donc pas)), mais ils auront quand même une auto dotée de toute la technologie du catalogue. Surcoût qui pourrait au final être répercuté sur ce même client, à moins que la simplification de la production (du fait de produire un seul modèle de voiture - sans packs, d'un point de vue technologique)) ne permette de faire suffisamment d'économies.
