The Volkswagen boss believes that the supposed arrival of Apple in cars is good news for the competition.
Apple's arrival in the automotive chessboard is an Arlesian one that has lasted since 2014, the date of the beginnings of the famous Titan project, launched by the American giant. But since then, between the periods of radio silence and outright cancellation announcements, we can't say that the car at the apple has really progressed. However, the Reuters news agency now reports that the car project is still alive at Apple and could see the light of day in 2024.
For the head of the Volkswagen group, the arrival of Apple would be a good sign: "we look forward to having new competitors who will certainly accelerate change in our industry, and bring new skills".
This reaction is not a surprise since Diess is a strong supporter of the automotive world's transition towards technologies and electrification. He has also come up against the hostility of part of the Volkswagen management committee in recent months, who did not see favorably a boss wishing to upset the very conservative corporate culture in Germany.
Diess was however recently officially dubbed by vote within the committee on his strategic choices, even if he did not obtain a renewal of his contract, which runs until 2023. He will then be 65 years.
