So far, the Geely group, owner of Volvo, has focused on the low and mid-range in terms of electric vehicles. But with Zeekr, he is now aiming for the high end, and Tesla. The launch in Europe is planned for 2022.
Geely has been teeming with ideas since the group took over Volvo and its global expansion accelerated. Now a major specialist in electromobility, the Chinese giant, led by Li Shufu, wants to position itself as a competitor to high-end electric brands such as Nio or Tesla. How ? With Zeekr, the new manufacturer of the already well-supplied Geely galaxy (Geely, Volvo, Proton, Lotus, Lynk & Co), the group intends to take a step into premium electric.
Zeekr has also unveiled the production version of the 001, its very first model which aims to become the great "shooting brake" for the masses. However, the Zeekr 001 will not be cheap: it has two motors for a total of 540 hp, and two battery packs, 86 and 100 kWh depending on the version.
The 001 is also very imposing: 4.97 meters long and especially 1.99 meters wide. A template that will not be suitable for all uses. Developed on the SEA platform (which will be used for other electric vehicles, at Polestar and Volvo).
The other interesting information is Zeekr's desire to develop a network of ultra-fast charging stations (up to 360 kW) in China fairly quickly. The manufacturer is inspired here by what Tesla does for its customers. The 001 will be offered in Europe from 2022, but nothing says for the moment that Zeekr is also planning a network of terminals for its international customers.
