27 major global companies, including Volvo, Uber and Ikea, have written an open letter to the European Union to validate the exit of the internal combustion engine in member countries from 2035.
For now, the output of the heat engine for the automobile is a very individual matter. Each member country of the European Union chooses a date in its own corner, so that the EU remains unable to set a real common course for all. This is perhaps what motivated a panel of 27 major global companies operating in different sectors of activity to request, in an open letter, the end of thermal power as early as 2035.
The document is based not only on the problem of polluting emissions, but also on Europe's trade balance: oil imports would indeed cost the EU some 200 billion euros a year.
In the list of signatory companies, only one car manufacturer: Volvo. This is not very surprising, given the fact that the brand will only offer electric vehicles from 2030. The letter thus asks Europe to stop combustion, including hybrids, within 15 years, but not just for individuals: commercial vehicles, too. For this, the document specifies that it would be necessary to set up a target of 0 g/km of CO2 for manufacturers from 2030.
