A specialist in two-wheelers, boating and electronics, Yamaha plans to add a new rope to its bow with the development of an electric motor for cars, which will be sold to anyone interested.
Yamaha had definitely abandoned any desire to develop a car two years ago. In 2019, the manufacturer specialized in many areas (motorcycles, marine, electronics) did not want to follow up on the amazing Sports ride, a small, playful and light sport.
But this does not mean that Yamaha cannot integrate the car in another form: as an engine manufacturer. Yamaha has been supplying engines for a long time, both in competition and in the production of standard cars. We remember in particular the V8 of the first Volvo XC90, supplied by Japanese.
Ecological transition requires, there is no longer any question of working on thermal blocks for the auto industry. Yamaha unveils a synchronous electric motor with permanent magnets for use in zero-emission vehicles. Its peculiarity: it develops 475 HP, which makes it one of the most powerful engines of the moment. For the sake of space and ease of integration, this new engine is in fact integrated into a compact unit, comprising the converter and the transmission.
For an interested manufacturer, then all you have to do is install one or more "all" Yamaha components. For the Japanese manufacturer, the potential market is large, especially since it also relies on electric mobility on motorcycles with small engines.
